‘You don’t need fashion designers when you are young. Have faith in your own bad taste. Buy the cheapest thing in your local thrift shop, these are the clothes that are freshly out of style with even the hippest people a few years older than you. Get on the fashion nerves of your peers, not your parents- that is the key to fashion leadership. Ill-fitting is always stylish. Be more creative – wear your clothes inside out, backward, upside down. Throw bleach in a load of coloured laundry. Follow the exact opposite of the dry cleaning instructions inside the clothes that cost the most in your thrift shop. Don’t wear jewelrey-stick band-aids on your wrists or make a necklace out of them. Wear scotch tape on the side of your face like a bad face-lift attempt. Mismatch your shoes. Best yet do as Mink Stole used to do: go to the thrift store the day after Halloween, when the children’s trick-or-treat costumes are on sale, buy one, and wear it as your uniform of defiance.’
Extract from “Role Models” by John Waters

I found the piece above written by John Waters very poignant and amusing. It’s upsetting to see young people head to toe in designer’s clothes, being slaves to fashion and consumerism. We should be setting the trends and not the other way around. This is the time to have fun with it and express yourself, as past the age of forty you need all the help you can get! Here are some photos of my friends taking advantage of their youth and beauty! Lets not waste youth on the young.

Alice Goddard above wears embroidered jacket from Portobello market.

Oliver Thame wears hoodie which he customised by recycling a piece of beautiful vintage embroidered silk which he appliquéd onto the sweatshirt. His pink hair looks real flash.

What are you wearing Ollie?
My girlfriends T-shirt and DMs I painted gold.
How would you describe your look?
Decadent Martian.

Milligan Beaumont wears mauve marabou skirt. If she were in a house in Harry Potter it would be? Hufflepuff. She’s a QT.

Above is Sonny Tassel: the epitome of art school.
Bleached his trackies to make em look like they were covered in something rather unsavoury.
Style staple? Nipple clips.

Dilara Findikoglu wears flowers on her skirt on her shirt and in her hair. Proving that there is no such thing as too much of a good thing.

Finally here I am in the Co-op wearing 1950’s nylon dressing gown, Luke’s Parka and buffalos.TTFN my loves.
